Written in 1889 by an anonymous author, Ophiolatreia is the study of serpent worship, detailing the successive stages of religious cults and the worship of the masculine, including sacred mounds and mountains, temple remains and other ephemera.

Taking precedence in this work is the mystical and religious symbolism of the serpent. Digging deep into the rituals of Zoroastrianism and the Cult of Saturn, we see how prevalent and worldwide the reverence for the Snake and its kindred extends throughout time and geography.

From the ancient mysteries of Osiris to the Aztec pantheon, few animals have captured the imagination quite like the serpent. This strange beast is the primary character in many of the world’s mythologies, religious dogmas and dramas.
