Description
Written in 1680 and posthumously published in 1879, Demoniality: Or, Incubi and Succubi by Lidovico Maria Sinistrari is a short but informative treatise of spirits and dark forces – specifically dealing with the sin of sexual intercourse with demons. Incubi and succubi, or, male and female demons, respectively, have been written about for centuries in nearly all cultures. Arousing their victims in their sleep, these demons violate them sexually for their own pleasure (at times, their victims’ pleasure, as well). Repeated intercourse with these demons theoretically cause insanity and extraordinarily ill-health.
Ludovico Maria Sinistrari was a 17th century theologian of great repute. Born in Ameno, Italy, he began instructing monks and other students in theology and philosophy in the Franciscan Order in the year 1647.
Sinistrari’s popularity was such that students came from all over the world for his teachings, both spiritual and philosophical. As well as theologian, he also performed exorcisms and was a member of the Holy Inquisition in Rome. He died in 1701.
